Today is a very important day for everyone. Today we celebrate the very thing that gives us life; Mother Earth.
According to the United Nations, the General Assembly designated 22 April as International Mother Earth Day through a resolution adopted in 2009. The original roots go back to the 1970s when environmental protection was not yet a priority of the national political agendas.
Now, more than ever, the earth needs us. There are so many things going on... Global warming, the melting of the ice, plastic everywhere and on top of that a pandemic for more than a year... Nature is desperately calling for our help and we ought to listen. This International Mother Earth Day, let's shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet and let's stop throwing nature under a bus.
The theme for 2021 is Restore our Earth. It is our forever home and if we don't take care of it, it won't take care of us.
How can we celebrate this day?
Recycle
Don't waste energy by leaving the lights on
Walk instead of taking the car
Clean an area nearby from the trash
Plant a tree or some flowers
Reuse everything you can in order to minimize waste
Compost
Inform ourselves!
These are some suggestions but there are many many more out there for you to choose from! Get creative and take care of our amazing Mother Earth.
Mother earth is our mother
Mother earth is like our mother. She gave birth to us all, she nurtured us and she provided for us. Just like a pregnant person, she created the best place for us to be created and to grow, with all this green and with fruits and vegetables and fresh air. We have to be grateful for her gifts but we also have to appreciate her biggest gift; the gift of creating a life.
Let's all take this day and try to thank her in any way that we can and be grateful and humbled. We are just passing from this earth, we are visitors. Thus, we have to leave the earth better than how we found it.
Conclusion
It may not be a very common international day but it is one of the most meaningful ones and it needs more of our attention. We owe our existence to the Earth yet we treat her like we don't need her. We have to learn to be grateful and appreciative of the treasures that we have, so for today we encourage you to do even one act of kindness for our Mother Earth and join us in the fight for a better, and greener, future!
